![]() Homeworld: Deserts of Kharak is now confirmed to be incoming as the next freebie, which kicks off on the same date. The two games giveaways will last until Thursday, August 24. Meanwhile, Dodo Peak has you taking the role of a dodo bird attempting to some baby dodos, all wrapped in classic arcade platformer-style gameplay. For $7.99, the Into Games Bundle carries Evil Genius 2 World Domination (just like above), Little Orpheus, Sable, West of Dead, Overcooked, Yooka-Laylee, Attack of the Earthlings, Tango Fiesta, Arcade Spirits, Autonauts, The Assembly, Big Crown: Showdown.Įpic Game Store's latest drop of free games carried copies of Black Book and Dodo Peak, continuing the double giveaway streak.įrom the duo, Black Book arrives as a Slavic myths-inspired narrative-driven RPG adventure featuring card-based combat. Paying the full $22 price of the bundle will get you two more games: The Universim and Prehistoric Kingdom.įanatical also has a brand-new charity bundle running with quite a few interesting games. Paying $13 instead will add on Airborne Kingdom, Pan'orama, and The Tenants in the second tier of the bundle. the If You Build It collection brings with it Evil Genius 2: World Domination and Frozenheim in the starting tier for $10. There are almost three weeks of time left on the bundle to make your decision.Ĭity building and tycoon fans also have a bundle waiting for them. You can find games with deeper (no pun intended) survival mechanics but personally I find Subnautica to be the perfect blend of fun, intrigue and terror. The final tier will cost you $30, which brings all the expansions of Outer Worlds, and a copy of High On Life. There is no other game I know of that gives you control over such a vehicle that is casually fun while also playing into the hazards of the world both mundane and mysterious, something the sequel sorely lacks. It also has several cameras to help you pilot this thing, a docking bay for either of the smaller vehicles and enough room to build extra storage and crafting stations. ![]() Even so, easily my favourite part of Subnautica is when you finally get the schematics and materials to build your Cyclops submarine, a beast in its own right it has variable speeds so you can try not to alert hostile fauna by cavitating and decoys for when you fail. ![]() It's a relief when you build your first vehicles an a terror when you realise they don't mean you're proof from danger. Subnautica brilliantly captures the paranoia of being surrounded by increasingly murkier water which can hide increasingly dangerous beasts. Tasked with investigating the mystery of why you crashed & who crashed here before you and with escaping the planet, inevitably the story and the demand for increasingly exotic crafting materials pull you from the relatively safe shallow biomes into deeper and darker depths. I say soft-survival as there are relatively few things to manage the usual food/water meters, a generic health bar restored instantly by First Aid Kits and over time with full food/water and of course an oxygen meter.Īs for why it's definitive, Subnautica taps into the unique feeling of the vulnerability of being stranded alone in an ocean. Take your underwater journey with you, as Subnautica is playable on the Steam Deck!įor me Subnautica is the definitive soft-survival game. Monitor your oxygen levels, and never go deep without at least a light. It's definitely not safe on this new planet, and even less so at nighttime! There are predators around every corner, and you don't want to get caught in the jaws of dangerous, deadly creatures lurking in the depths all around you. You'll be able to journey through many underwater biomes and go even deeper into the scary depths of the ocean. In Subnautica, you'll be able to get yourself a pressure suit that will allow you to explore even deeper and endure more heat. Luckily, you can use your wits and resourcefulness to stay one step ahead of them by using the resources available to craft yourself useful items, including cool equipment like grappling hooks, torpedo launchers, and more! Then, you can explore. But beware - the planet is teeming with all sorts of dangerous creatures, so you'll need to be careful. To survive, you'll need to scavenge materials and build yourself a base of operations. ![]() In this game, you'll take on the role of an intrepid explorer who crashlands on an alien planet that's entirely covered in water you'll have to survive against wildlife whilst you find out why you crashed. If you're looking for an out-of-this-world gaming experience, look no further than Subnautica. Developed and published by Unknown Worlds Entertainment.
